Click ID Identity Boost is a strategy used to strengthen your Attentive identity graph during or prior to a migration from a legacy Email Service Provider (ESP). By ingesting click IDs from links sent through your existing platform, Attentive can recognize and associate incoming traffic with specific subscribers, building a foundation for high-performing triggered programs from day one.
How Click ID Boost Works
The implementation relies on three functional steps:
- Batch Upload: Mapping your current ESP's click IDs to a resolvable identifier (email or phone) in Attentive.
- ESP Configuration: Appending that unique click ID to all outbound links in your legacy ESP.
- Tag Ingestion: The Attentive tag automatically scrapes the ID from the URL and maps it to the subscriber profile.
Implementation Instructions
Ready to get started? To implement Identity Boost, please coordinate with your dedicated Attentive Customer Success Manager or reach out to our Support team for guided assistance.
Step 1: Configure Outbound Links in your ESP
You must ensure that your legacy ESP is configured to append a unique subscriber-level identifier to every link in your outbound emails. Attentive supports a wide range of platforms through a Generic Click ID mapping.
Note: For additional information on the setup for individual ESPs, reach out to your Attentive CSM or Support
Configure your ESP to use the following URL parameters based on your platform:
| ESP Platform | Required URL Parameter |
| Cordial | cordial_id |
| Emarsys | em_uid OR sc_uid |
| Klaviyo | utm_klaviyo_id |
| Listrak |
eKey Note: For Listrak, you must ensure that Link Tracking is enabled within your account settings to automatically append these IDs. |
| Movable Ink | mi_u |
| Ometria | omID |
| Salesforce |
sfmc_id sfmc_sub sfmc_s SubKey |
| Responsys | rysid |
Step 2: Perform a Batch Upload to Attentive
Once your links are configured, you must provide Attentive with a mapping file so the scraped IDs can be associated with existing subscriber profiles.
-
Export Data from your ESP: Generate a CSV file containing two columns:
- The unique Click ID (e.g., the Listrak eKey or Salesforce SubKey).
- The subscriber's email address
- The subscriber's phone number (optional)
- Format the File: Ensure there are no spaces or hidden characters in the ID strings.
- Upload to Attentive: Coordinate with your Attentive representative to perform a batch ingestion of this mapping file.
Note: In some cases it might be required to retrieve this data via the API.
Step 3: Verify Tag Ingestion
After the links are live and the batch upload is complete, the Attentive tag will begin collecting IDs from your site traffic.
Verify on your end by:
- Send an email from your other ESP and include internal testers on the email
- Click on a link within an email
- Check the URL to see if it includes the desired ID (e.g. rysid, eKey, etc.) followed by a string of characters
When the ID and parameter are present, Attentive will ingest this information and match the subscriber to the email address associated with the upload.
Best Practices and Monitoring
- Implement Prior to Migration: For best results, enable Click ID Boost at least several weeks before your full migration to allow the identity graph to "warm up".
- Audit All Link Types: Ensure click IDs are appended to all message types, including promotional, transactional, and automated flows.
