Migrate your email campaign program to Attentive

This guide is intended to help you get your email campaign program up and running. Generally speaking, there are a couple of important steps you need to take to switch your campaign email program from another email service provider (ESP) to Attentive:

Note: While most of the steps outlined in this guide are the same for every migration from another ESP to Attentive, there may be key differences with your specific migration. Please follow the guidance from your Attentive team if you’re not sure whether the steps in this guide apply to your migration.

Before you begin

To send campaign emails, you must already be sending text messages and emails in journeys through the Attentive platform. See Migrate your triggered email program to Attentive for more information about setting up the ability to send emails in journeys.

You must also warm up your email sending domain before you can send campaign emails. If you’ve set up triggered emails in journeys with Attentive, your domain should already be warmed up (or be in the process of being warmed up). If you’re still waiting for the warmup email campaign process to finish, you can start creating drafts of upcoming email campaigns, which you can send once warmup is complete.

Step 1: Meet with your Attentive email team to get started

To help you get started, reach out to your Attentive CSM and Product Specialist to schedule a kickoff call. They’ll send you a “Get Started Guide” for campaign email.

In your kickoff call, your Attentive team will introduce Attentive’s campaign email tools. You’ll talk through your subscriber list size, campaign and segmentation strategy, and how to optimize email deliverability. You’ll also discuss some KPIs that we can use together to measure your success and outline the rest of the process to get your email program up and running.

After you have your kickoff call, you can get started with your migration!

Step 2: Create and send a warmup campaign

The warmup process establishes your domain’s reputation with mailbox providers, including Google (Gmail), Microsoft (Outlook), and Verizon (Yahoo). The better your domain’s reputation, the more likely it is that your emails will be successfully delivered to subscriber inboxes.

In the warmup process, Attentive builds and helps you run a series of email warmup campaigns. In these campaigns, you send one campaign per day to a segment of subscribers. Subscribers who’ve most recently engaged with emails from your brand receive emails in the first few days of the warmup series. Subscribers who've engaged less recently receive emails later in the warmup series.

Depending on the size of your subscriber list, email warmup campaigns can last 5-20 days. Keep in mind that you won’t be able to send any other email campaigns until the warmup campaign process is complete.

See Send email warmup campaigns for more information.

Step 3: Create, migrate, and send email campaigns

After you’ve met with your Attentive team, you can create your first campaign! Instructions for creating and sending an email campaign can be found in the following articles:

With Attentive, you can also send A/B test email campaigns. Refer to the following article for more information:
