The Enhanced Attentive tag

Install the enhanced Attentive tag, part of Attentive Signal, to increase the number of website visitors who can be identified. Updating your tag takes less than 15 minutes and can help boost revenue by allowing you to identify and reach even more of your subscribers who visit your site.

Step 1: Contact your AM to get started

Contact your Attentive AM and let them know that you want to install the enhanced Attentive tag. They’ll send you the following:

  • New CNAME and TXT records to add to your DNS host
  • Custom pixel code for Shopify or new tag code for Shopify with headless commerce or other eCommerce platforms

Step 2: Add records to your DNS host

After your Attentive AM sends you new CNAME and TXT DNS records, add them individually at the domain provider you use to host your eCommerce website.

Note: Add each record individually as a new record (i.e., don’t modify your existing ones). Don't delete any existing records.

Follow the instructions linked below (based on your domain provider) to add records:

Step 3: Add custom pixel or update Attentive Tag

Depending on your eCommerce platform, follow the relevant instructions below:

Shopify

If you use Shopify as your eCommerce platform, add the custom pixel code you received from your Attentive AM to your Shopify store:

  1. In Shopify, go to Settings > Customer events.
  2. Click Add custom pixel.
  3. Enter a Pixel name.
  4. Copy and paste the pixel code you received from your Attentive AM in the Code box.
  5. Click Connect.
Note: If you use Shopify with headless commerce, follow the steps in Other eCommerce platforms (including Shopify with headless commerce) below.

Other eCommerce platforms (including Shopify with
headless commerce)

If you use Shopify with headless commerce or any other eCommerce platform, replace the existing Attentive tag on your site with the new URL provided by your Attentive AM.

  1. If your tag is installed using a tag manager (e.g., Google Tag Manager):
    • In the Attentive Marketplace, find your tag manager (e.g., Google Tag Manager), then click Disconnect.
    • If you use Google Tag Manager, follow these instructions from Google to delete the Attentive tag.
    • Follow instructions to deploy the new tag directly on page.

Note: For the best results, install the new tag directly on page. Installing through a tag manager will not allow the tag to identify as many visitors as possible.
    • If you use the Tag SDK, continue to use it with the new tag.
  2. If your tag is installed directly on page:
    • Remove all existing Attentive tag code.
    • Follow instructions to deploy the new tag directly on page.
    • If you use the Tag SDK, continue to use it with the new tag.

Step 4: Contact your AM to verify and enable

Let your Attentive AM know after you’ve added records to your DNS host and added custom pixel code in Shopify or replaced your existing Attentive tag. They’ll validate that everything is set up correctly.

Note: If you operate in markets where consent is required for data collection (e.g., Europe), you must ensure that consent is collected. If you haven’t already set this up, reach out to your Attentive AM.
