Google Tag Manager (integration)

The Attentive and Google Tag Manager (GTM) integration provides a seamless way to add the Attentive tag to your website with the click of a button. As a reminder, in order to collect behavioral events (such as product views, cart adds, and purchases), you must add the Attentive tag to your website.

Note: If you previously installed the Google Tag Manager (direct in container) integration, it will continue to collect behavioral events, and there's no action required.

Add the Attentive tag using GTM

Complete the following steps to add the Attentive tag using the Google Tag Manager integration:

1. Navigate to the integrations setup page and select Google Tag Manager.
2. Click Sign in with Google.
   
   You're redirected to sign in to your Google account.
3. Select your Google account.
   You're asked to let Attentive access your Google account.
4. Click Allow.
   
   You're redirected to the Google Tag Manager integration page in Attentive.
5. Click the Account drop-down and select My company.
6. Click the Container drop-down and select your unique container.
7. Click the Workspace drop-down and select My default.
8. Click Create Tag.
   
   The Attentive tag is now installed on your website. The latest version of the tag loads for visitors to your website. A message appears on the Google Tag Manager integration page to indicate that the tag is installed.

Disconnect the integration

If you need to disconnect the integration, you must do it both within Attentive and within your Google Tag Manager account. If you only disconnect the integration within Attentive, Attentive won't delete any objects from your Google Tag Manager account.

Complete the following steps to disconnect the integration:

1. Navigate to the integrations setup page and select Google Tag Manager.
2. Click the Attentive Tag auto-installed link on the Settings tab.
   
   You're redirected to the object within your Google Tag Manager account.
3. Manually remove the Attentive tag within your Google Tag Manager account.
4. Return to the Settings tab in Attentive and click Disconnect.
