Create a Back in Stock Waitlist sign-up unit

Heads up: This article assumes that you’re already familiar with sign-up units in Attentive. Before you get started here, you may want to check out the following:

Back in Stock Waitlist sign-up units let both new and existing subscribers join a waitlist to receive messages from you when a specific variant of an item they want to purchase comes back in stock.

Back in Stock Waitlist sign-up units also let non-subscribers sign up to receive text and email messages from you and optionally send them a welcome discount. Your Shopify store visitors can click or tap on a customizable Notify me CTA button on your Shopify store to opt in to back in stock messages from you.

Note: Before you can send Back in Stock Waitlist messages to subscribers, you’ll neeed to complete three workflows:

You can complete the above workflows in any order, but each must be completed before you can use this feature.

Back in Stock Waitlist sign-up units work similarly to other Attentive sign-up units. By default, Back in Stock Waitlist sign-up units use the styles you set in your Brand Kit, and you can further customize the design of the sign-up unit just like other sign-up units.

There are some important differences with Back in Stock Waitlist sign-up units:

  • Notify me CTA: Adds a button to product pages on your Shopify store that visitors can click to opt in to back in stock messages. Note that the button only appears if you’ve also added a code snippet to your Shopify store.

You can customize the copy above the CTA and text alignment of the Notify me CTA, you won’t see your changes in the sign-up unit preview. Other styles, like the color and font, are set by your Shopify store template. You can customize the appearance of the button by changing the Notify me CTA Class name to a different button class from your Shopify template.
  • Notify me CTA class names: You change the appearance of the Notify me CTA button to match that of other buttons on your Shopify store by changing the Class field to match that of other buttons on your store.

  • Display rules control when the Notify me CTA button appears: You can set when the Notify me CTA button appears for store visitors with display rules. For example, if you set Session to Every session, and Page views to Third pageview and beyond, the Notify me CTA button will only appear on the third view of an out-of-stock item.

  • Timing display rules are set to when the CTA is clicked and can’t be changed. The Back in Stock Waitlist experience store visitors have depends on their subscription status and device type. For more, see Existing vs. new subscribers.
  • Templates: Two templates – desktop and mobile – are available for Back in Stock Waitlist sign-up units, and both are fullscreen only. When visitors click the Notify me CTA button, the sign-up unit expands to fullscreen.
  • Metrics: Data is shown for new subscribers only. Existing subscribers who click on the Notify me CTA button won’t be counted in the Sign-up Units page in Attentive.
