Back in Stock Waitlist subscriber experience

This article shows you what visitors to your Shopify store will see when they see an out-of-stock product on your store and enroll in back-in-stock waitlist notifications for that product. If you haven’t already, you may want to check out the Back in Stock Waitlist overview before proceeding.

Your store visitors will have a different experience with Back in Stock Waitlist sign-up units based on if they are:

New subscriber experience on mobile devices

  1. Store visitors on mobile devices see and tap the Notify me CTA button when viewing an out-of-stock item on your Shopify store.
  2. Your Back in Stock Waitlist mobile sign-up unit opens, and visitors are prompted to enter their email address.
  3. Your SMS terms screen of the sign-up unit opens, and visitors are prompted to tap Remind Me.

  1. The visitor’s default messaging app opens, with an SMS opt-in message already written.
  2. Once visitors tap Send, they are subscribed to your marketing text messages and are entered into a welcome journey. 
  3. When the item is replenished in your store, the new subscriber receives a text notification with a link to purchase. 

Existing subscriber experience on mobile devices

  1. Existing subscribers on mobile devices see and can tap the same Notify me CTA button when viewing an out-of-stock item on your Shopify store.
  2. The subscriber is added to the waitlist for the item, and the copy on the Notify me CTA button changes to "Enrolled in back in stock notifications".
  3. When the item is replenished in your store, you send the subscriber a text notification with a link to purchase.

New subscriber experience on desktop devices

  1. Store visitors on desktop devices see and click the Notify me CTA button when viewing an out-of-stock item on your Shopify store.

  1. Your Back in Stock Waitlist desktop sign-up unit opens, and visitors are prompted to enter their email address.
  2. Visitors are also prompted to enter their mobile number.

  1. After both an email address and mobile number are submitted, visitors see a success screen.

  1. You send a text message to the mobile number they entered, prompting them to reply with “Y” to subscribe to your marketing text messages.
  2. If they reply “Y”, they are subscribed to your marketing text messages and are entered into a welcome journey. 
  3. When the item is replenished in your store, the new subscriber receives a text notification with a link to purchase.

  1. Existing subscribers on desktop devices see and can click the same Notify me CTA button when viewing an out-of-stock item on your Shopify store.
