Create a Back in Stock Opt In journey

Heads up: Before you get started with Back in Stock Opt In journeys, you may want to first familiarize yourself with the following:

Back in Stock Opt In journeys let you send automated messages to subscribers who opt in to receive notifications when a specific product variant comes back in stock. You can send both text and email messages in Back in Stock Opt In journeys.

The CTA to get a notification when an item is back in stock when viewing a website on mobile and the corresponding text message on a subscriber's device when that item is back in stock.

Note that your store must be on Shopify in order to use this feature, and you must use Shopify to track your product inventory.

You can complete the above workflows in any order, but each must be completed before you can use this feature.

There are two different Back in Stock journeys, and only one can be active:

  • Back in Stock Opt In: Messages subscribers after they opt in to view a product with a variant when the product is replenished. BiS Waitlist journeys require that subscribers opt in to the waitlist for each product variant. BiS Waitlist journeys also require that you create and activate a Back in Stock Waitlist sign-up unit, as well as add a code snippet to your Shopify store.
  • Back in Stock: Messages subscribers after they view an out of stock product without a variant when the product is replenished. Back in Stock journeys don’t require opt in to send messages to subscribers. Back in Stock journeys also work on their own, and don’t require a Shopify code snippet or sign-up unit. Create a Back in Stock Opt In journey

Important: Although you can create and activate a Back in Stock Opt In journey any time, they won’t start triggering and sending messages to subscribers until you’ve:

There are two Back in Stock Opt In journey templates:

  • Back in Stock Opt In: Sends an initial text back-in-stock text message with a link to purchase, and a followup reminder back-in-stock message if the subscriber doesn’t purchase the item after one day.
  • Back in Stock Opt In - Text + Email: Based on subscriber messaging preferences, sends an initial back-in-stock text message or email. If the subscriber doesn’t purchase the item after one day, sends a followup reminder back-in-stock email message.

Each template comes prebuilt with everything you need to send back-in-stock waitlist messages to subscribers. You can optionally customize both templates, including the message copy, wait times, and adding more journey steps.

To create a Back in Stock Opt In journey:

  1. Go to Journeys and click + Create journey.
  2. Select Back in Stock Opt In (for text messages only) or Back in Stock Opt In - Text + Email (for text and email messages) and click Get started. Your Back in Stock Opt In journey opens.
  3. Optionally, customize the messages you’ll send to subscribers to suit your brand by clicking on each Send text message or Send email step.

    Options for Send text message or Send email open. For Send text message, you can:
    • Edit the copy of the message
    • Add images, offers, and emoji
    • Click on {{triggerEvent.product.name}} or {{triggerEvent.product.link}} to edit link tracking parameters

      Once you’re finished, click Save in the lower right corner.
  4. When you’re ready to activate your Back in Stock Opt In journey, click Turn on in the upper right corner.

Important: If you haven’t yet, you’ll need to complete the following two workflows before your can start sending subscribers automated back in stock waitlist messages:
