Branch on message engagement in journeys

When you use the subscriber action branch step, you can branch on message engagement. This allows you to target subscribers based on how they’ve engaged with past messages.

For example, you can branch on subscribers who’ve clicked a shortlink in a text message from you since starting the journey. That way, you can send a follow-up email message to subscribers who haven’t clicked a shortlink in a text message from you.

The following email message engagement actions are available:

  • Has received an email: Use when you want to branch on subscribers based on whether they’ve received emails from you in the past.
  • Has opened an email: Use when you want to branch on subscribers based on whether they’ve opened emails from you in the past.
  • Has clicked an email link: Use when you want to branch on subscribers based on whether they’ve clicked a link in emails from you in the past.

The following text message engagement actions are also available:

  • Has received a text: Use when you want to branch on subscribers who’ve received one or more text messages from you.
  • Has clicked a shortlink: Use when you want to branch on subscribers who’ve clicked a shortlink in at least one text message from you.

As with other subscriber actions, you can set both the frequency of the action and the time period in which the action took place.

You can also apply an action filter to message engagement branches. Action filters allow you to filter by messages sent in a specific campaign or sent via a specific journey.

Adding an action filter to a branch.

Notes:

  • Action filters don’t currently support the ability to filter by A/B test messages.
  • You can only filter by engagement with Attentive messages. Action filters don’t currently support the ability to filter by messages sent by other providers.
