Emails in journeys

Triggered emails refer to the Send email steps within journeys. These steps send subscribers your customized email template when they enter the associated step of the journey. For example, you can send an email with a discount offer for subscribers who’ve abandoned their shopping cart.

Triggered emails are available in the following types of journeys:

  • Back in stock
  • Browse abandonment
  • Cart abandonment
  • Checkout abandonment (Shopify only)
  • Joined a segment
  • Low inventory
  • Post purchase
  • Price drop
  • Session abandonment
  • Winback

Contact us: If you’re interested in taking advantage of triggered emails, contact cs-team-email@attentivemobile.com and cc: your CSM. After you receive access, they can help you build email templates specific to your brand.

Add an email to a journey

Whether you’re creating a new journey or editing an existing one, you can add a triggered email step. This sends an email to the subscribers or segments of subscribers who meet the configured conditions.

  1. Create a new journey. In the desired part of the journey, click +, then Send email.
The Send email configuration pane appears.
    • An email can be a standalone step or embedded within a branch step.

  2. In the Email name field, add an internal-facing name for the email.
  3. In the From name field, enter the name that subscribers will see in their email.
  4. In the From email address field, enter the email address that subscribers will see. This must include the same domain you used to onboard with Attentive.
  5. Check Use as your reply-to address to allow customers to reply to your From email address. Otherwise, deselect the checkbox and enter a Reply-to email address below.
  6. In the Subject field, enter a subject line for your email. Click the icons to the right to add emojis and personalized fields to the subject line. If your brand uses Attentive AI, our AI tools can help you generate subject lines.
  7. Choose one of the options under Preview text:

    • Customize the preview text: Enter text to display to subscribers before they open the email. Click the icons to the right to add emojis and personalizations. If you leave this blank, the subscribers receive the email with no preview text.
    • Use the first line of the text from the email body: Preview text appears next to the subject line in the subscribers' inboxes. However, it doesn't appear when a subscriber opens the email.
  8. (Optional) Click Add Google Analytics link tracking to enable link tracking.
  9. (Optional) If Add Google Analytics link tracking is checked, enter a UTM code to track the email in the UTM campaign field. This isn’t visible to customers.
    • We recommend using the email name or a unique identifier for link tracking.
  10. (Optional) Add custom URL parameters.
  11. (Optional) Click Use Smart Sending to toggle Smart Sending on for this message. See Smart Sending for more information.
  12. Create the body of the email. Subscribers will see this content when they open the campaign.
  13. Click Preview to double-check your changes. When you are satisfied, click Save.

Copy an email in your journey

Copy preexisting email steps in your journeys to save time configuring a new email.

  1. On the Send email step you want to copy, hold down the option (Mac) or alt (PC) key, and drag the Send email step to the part of the journey you would like to copy it to.
