Add a header and footer to your email

While designing your email, we recommend incorporating a header and footer to create an effective first impression and consolidate resources. You can use the drag-and-drop editor to fully customize the header and footer. 

Note: Per legal requirements, you must include the {{unsubscribeLink}} and {{companyAddress}} personalizations in each email. Manually adding your company address doesn’t satisfy compliance requirements.

Design your header

By default, Attentive templates contain our company logo in the header (or none at all). These are meant to be replaced with your company logo and website. Follow the instructions below to fully customize the header of your email. 

  1. When designing your email, select the best template for your email. 
  2. Select the image in the top row of the email.

  3. Click Change image in the panel on the right to replace it with your logo. 
  4. (Optional) Click Apply effects to adjust your logo by resizing, cropping, adding filters, etc. 
  5. In the Url field, enter your company's URL. When subscribers click the logo, they'll be directed to this URL. 
  6. Next to Alternative text, enter alternative ("alt") text to the image for accessibility. 
  7. In the drop-down below ACTION, select what action is initiated when a subscriber clicks the link (e.g., open a web page or send a text message). Then, enter details about the action, like the web page URL that should open after a subscriber clicks the link. 
  8. Below BLOCK OPTIONS, edit the size and padding of your header. 
  9. Click the Save icon for the row to save your header row. You can save it as either a standard or synced saved row.

Design your footer

While designing your email, we recommend including a footer to contain important links and personalizations, including {{unsubscribeLink}} and {{companyAddress}}. You can fully customize each footer template or build it out yourself.

  1. Add a new row at the bottom of your email or click on the footer row if the template already has one. 
  2. To add links to your social media accounts, drag and drop a SOCIAL content block into your footer row. In the panel on the right, configure the icons and their corresponding URLs.

  3. Link to your brand's privacy policy and terms of service. You can add the URLs by selecting the text you want to link, then clicking the Insert/edit link button.

  4. Make sure the {{companyAddress}} and {{unsubscribeLink}} variables appear in your footer. These automatically populate the associated information, which is required in all emails. 
  5. Click on the footer row to further customize the colors and appearance in the right panel as needed. 
  6. Click the Save icon for the row to save your footer row. You can save it as either a standard or synced saved row.

After you have fully designed your email, we recommend testing the email. When you are satisfied, you can send it to subscribers
