Back-in-stock journeys let you text subscribers when you've restocked specific items. You can configure back-in-stock messages to send to specific subscribers based on how often they visit a product page and filter subscribers who've purchased the item. For inspiration, check out back in stock use cases.
Watch: Create a back in stock journey
Back-in-stock journeys don't alert subscribers when item variants (such as shirt sizes or colors) are back in stock. When your subscribers view an item on your store, the first variant they see is the "default" of that item variant, which we can't guarantee is the item they're interested in.
With an eCommerce integration or the Product Catalog API, you can input product data to incorporate product attributes in your subscriber segments or journey branches. This allows you to create product-change triggered journeys. For more information, see Use your product data in Attentive.
You should know
- Back-in-stock journeys require that you share your inventory data with Attentive. For more, check out Product Catalog.
- A single back-in-stock journey can include multiple items or groups of items, but you should add a unique branch for each item.
- Back-in-stock journeys trigger as soon as an item moves from unavailable to available.
- Up to 100,000 unique subscribers can be notified per back-in-stock journey.
- Currently, back-in-stock journeys can't be configured to alert when a specific number of items are back in stock, only that at least one is in stock.
- Back-in-stock journeys trigger based on the last time a subscriber viewed an item, whether or not it was in stock when they last viewed it.
- You can use unique or shared discount codes with back-in-stock journeys, but not integrated offers like Shopify auto-gen offer codes. Because back-in-stock journeys may trigger for multiple subscribers at the same time, price drop messages could get dropped if the offer depletes more quickly than it can be replenished.
Create a back-in-stock journey for any item that’s back in stock
The default back-in-stock journey sends subscribers a message when they viewed a product that was previously out of stock, but is now in stock. To create a back-in-stock journey for any item that comes back in stock:
- Sign in to Attentive, and go to Journeys.
- Click Create Journey ...
Then, select the Back in Stock prebuilt journey.
A back-in-stock journey opens. - Click the Back in stock node on the journey map to open the side panel.
- For Include subscribers who, set which subscribers you want to include based on when they last viewed a product and variant that's now back in stock.
Note: You can set both how many times subscribers viewed an item in a specific time period. For example, if you select At least once > in the last 30 days, the journey will send messages to any subscribers who viewed an out of stock item at least once in the last month. - Optionally, for Exclude subscribers who, set which subscribers you don't want to include in the journey based on whether they’ve already purchased a product and variant that's back in stock.
- When you’re done, click Turn on, set the frequency of the journey, and then click Turn on journey. You can also click Schedule to set a future date and time to activate your journey.
Create a back in stock journey for one or more specific items
You can also create back-in-stock journeys that let subscribers know when specific out of stock items they previously viewed have come back in stock:
- Create a new journey, and select the Back in stock prebuilt journey.
- Click the Back in stock node on the journey map to open the side panel.
- For Include subscribers who, set which subscribers you want to include based on when they last viewed a product and variant that's now back in stock.
- Optionally, for Exclude subscribers who, set which subscribers you don't want to include in the journey based on whether they’ve already purchased a product and variant that's back in stock.
Note: You can set both how many times subscribers viewed an item, as well as when they last viewed an item. For example, if you select At least once > When it was out of stock > 30 days, the journey sends messages to any subscribers who viewed an out of stock item at least once in the last month. - Next, add a branch step before the Send text message step.
- Click on the branch step to open the side panel.
By default, the branch will automatically be set for What product was back in stock. - For each Branch field, select an item that you want to let subscribers know is back in stock. Click + Add branch to add multiple branches. When you're done, click Save.
In the above journey example, the only messages sent are those named "Adrienne Track Jacket" or "Aeon Capri," and only when they come back in stock. - Add a Send text message step to each branch. Then, click on each Send message step and add copy for your message. Make sure to include the
{{triggerEvent.product.name}}
and{{triggerEvent.product.link}}
variables and dynamic link in your message! To add variables and dynamic links, click the { } icon and select one or more macros.
Tip: Boost conversion rates by including an image of the item by clicking the + icon and selecting Dynamic product image. - Repeat for each branch in your back in stock journey.
- When you’re done, click Turn on, set the frequency of the journey, and then click Turn on journey. You can also click Schedule to set a future date and time to activate your journey.
