Email Allowlists

What is it?

An Email Allowlist is a setting that ensures specific email addresses always receive messages from Attentive, regardless of their subscription status. Adding an address to this list allows it to bypass Attentive’s built-in suppression logic (such as global opt-outs or frequency capping).

Note: Limit your allowlists to internal company domains. Including external customer emails in an allowlist can trigger spam filters and damage your domain’s sender reputation over time.

How do I use it?

Step 1: Access Settings

  1. Log in to the Attentive platform.
  2. Navigate to Settings in the left-hand navigation bar.
  3. Select Email Settings.

Step 2: Add Emails to the Allowlist

  1. Locate the Email Allowlist section.
  2. Click + Add entry or Upload .CSV.
  3. Enter the specific email addresses you wish to allowlist (e.g., your internal team members or stakeholders).
  4. Click Save.

Note on Upload Limits: This feature is intended for internal testers and employees, with a maximum limit of 1,000 addresses total. To safeguard your sender reputation, do not use this list for external marketing subscribers; bypassing global suppressions at scale can lead to severe deliverability issues and may result in your emails being flagged as spam.

Step 3: Send or Test

  • Once an email is on the allowlist, any Campaign or Journey message sent to that address will bypass suppression filters.
  • Note: These users will still need to be added to your test segments or lists to receive the actual send.

Why should I use it?

  • Internal Testing: It ensures that your internal team receives test emails exactly as they appear, even if those team members have previously opted out or have been suppressed by frequency limits.
  • Stakeholder Review: It guarantees that high-priority stakeholders always see your live campaigns and journeys for quality assurance purposes.
  • Bypass Auto-Suppression: It removes the risk of "missing" a test email due to Attentive's automated logic designed to protect deliverability for standard subscribers.
