Add a countdown timer to a sign-up unit to create a sense of urgency for site visitors and help you grow your subscriber list.
There are two kinds of timers: site-wide and visitor-specific. Site-wide timers are great for drawing attention to store-wide sales, while visitor-specific timers are a way to let visitors claim a limited-time offer by subscribing to your messaging program.

Add a countdown timer to a sign-up unit
Follow these steps to add a countdown timer to a sign-up unit:
- Create or edit a sign-up unit.
- Under Page styles, open the Countdown section and turn on the countdown timer.
- Choose a Timer type to add to your sign-up unit:
- Visitor-specific: Displays a unique countdown to each non-subscriber.
-
Site-wide: Displays the same countdown to all site visitors.
Note: If you choose the Site-wide option, the sign-up unit becomes inactive when the countdown expires. We recommend that you plan to replace the sign-up unit in order to prevent disruption for list growth. For example, you can manually replace the sign-up unit with a new one or schedule a new sign-up unit to appear as soon as the countdown expires.
- Choose how long the countdown timer should appear:
- For visitor-specific timers, enter a Timer amount, e.g., 30 minutes or 24 hours.
- For site-wide timers, set an End date for when the countdown should expire. For example, if you’re announcing a sale that starts at 12:00 PM Eastern Time on April 1, use that date and time as the timer’s End date. You can also choose to hide seconds from the countdown timer (e.g., if the end date is several days away) or hide days when there’s less than 24 hours until the timer expires.
- (Optional) Turn on Custom label text to modify the label(s) beneath each timer component (i.e., days, hours, seconds).
- Customize the look and feel of the timer in the Styling section, including Location, Timer Text, Font, Background Color, Label Text, Colon Separators, Font, Container, and more.
- Click Save changes.
- Finish creating or editing your sign-up unit.
