You have several options when it comes to managing your international messaging program in Attentive. While some companies prefer to manage each region in their own separate Attentive accounts, we also offer the ability to manage multiple regions within the same account.
For example, let’s say you send messages in the US, UK, Canada, and France. There are several ways you can manage all four regions in Attentive:
- Have a separate account for each individual region: one for the US, one for the UK, etc.
- Manage your US program from one account and bundle all other regions (UK, Canada, and France) in a different account.
- Bundle North American regions (US and Canada) in one account and European regions (UK and France) in another.
- Manage all four regions in the same account.
Generally, we recommend that you bundle accounts in a way that aligns with your marketing organization and tech stack. But whatever your preferred approach, reach out to your Attentive CSM to get started.
If you choose to bundle several regions in a single account, see the sections below for more information.

Manage sign-up units and offers in different regions
You can create sign-up units for each region you manage in your Attentive account. Sign-up units can be in English, in one of the region’s local languages, or both languages. See the sections below for instructions on how to make copies of sign-up units from one region to another, as well as how to create new regional sign-up units from a template or from scratch.
- All sign-up unit types are available in all regions.
- Individual SMS sign-up units must be created for each region where the sign-up unit should appear. To display sign-up units in multiple languages in a region, separate sign-up units must be created for each region and language pair. This includes landing pages. Only email-only creatives can be used across multiple regions and languages.
Create a sign-up unit for a new region by copying an existing sign-up unit
The simplest way to create a sign-up unit in a new region is to make a copy of an existing sign-up unit from another region.
- Go to Sign-up units.
- For the sign-up unit you want to copy, click the three dots.
- Click Make a copy.
- In the window, enter a new Sign-up unit name, select a Region, and select a Language.
- Click Save.
- When you copy a sign-up unit, guidelines specific to the region of the copied unit are automatically added.
- If you select a language other than English, the copied unit uses default language from Attentive in that language. It’s not translated dynamically.
- If you select English as the language, all elements from the original sign-up unit are carried over to the copied sign-up unit.
Create a new sign-up unit from a template
Follow these steps to create a new sign-up unit from a template in a new region:
- Go to Sign-up units.
- Click + Create sign-up flow.
- Click Choose a template, then click Continue.
- Select the Region and Language.
- Choose a template by clicking Start with template.
- Continue creating your sign-up unit.
Create a new custom sign-up unit
Follow these steps to create a new custom sign-up unit in a new region:
- Go to Sign-up units.
- Click + Create sign-up flow.
- Click Build custom, then click Continue.
- Select the Region and Language.
- Continue creating your sign-up unit.
Manage offers across regions
As you build out your sign-up units, campaigns, and journeys for each of your regions, keep in mind that when you create offers in Attentive, they can’t be differentiated by region. We recommend clearly naming offers that should apply to a particular region.
Create segments based on language and country
You can create segments using the following subscriber characteristics:
- Country, recent: The country where a subscriber is located, based on their IP address. For example, if a subscriber is Canadian, but they’re currently traveling in France, this would be France.
-
Country, residence: The country where a subscriber is located, based on the country code in their phone number of the country where they signed up to receive messages. For example, if a subscriber is Canadian, but they’re currently traveling in France, this would be Canada.
Note: As a best practice, we generally recommend using Country, residence instead of Country, recent. - Language: The subscriber’s preferred language, based on the language of the sign-up unit from which they signed up to receive messages. For example, if a subscriber is Italian, but they sign up from a sign-up unit in English, their language would be English.
For more information about creating segments, see What is segmentation?
Send campaigns in multiple regions
When you send campaigns from a multi-region account, keep in mind that you’ll need to set up segments based on country and/or language if you want to send different campaigns to subscribers in different regions.
For example: let’s say you want to send a campaign to subscribers in Australia who’ve made a purchase.
- Go to Segments.
- Click + Create segment.
- Click Create next to Dynamic segment.
- In the segment builder, create a new segment with two conditions:
- “Country, residence is Australia”
AND - “Has made a purchase at least once over all time
- Click Create.
- Enter a Name and Description for your new segment.
- Click Save.
- “Country, residence is Australia”
Next, choose your new segment as the audience when you create your campaign.
For more information about campaigns, see Send campaigns with Campaign Composer.
Send journeys in multiple regions
When you use journeys to send triggered messages, keep in mind that you’ll need to branch by segment if you want messages to be sent only to subscribers in particular countries or languages or if you use different copy, links, offers, etc., for different regions.
For example: let’s say you want to send triggered messages to French-speaking subscribers in Switzerland when they view, but don’t purchase, a product.
- Create a new journey from the “Browse abandonment - French (CH)” prebuilt journey. You can also make a copy of an existing journey.
- Add a Branch step after the Wait step.
- In the new Branch step, select What segment the subscriber is in, then select the appropriate segments. See the Send campaigns in multiple regions section above for an example segment.
In this example, we already have a dynamic segment called “Swiss French” that includes French speakers whose country of residence is Switzerland. - Move the new Branch step beneath the original Branch step.
- Turn on your journey.
- Separate welcome journeys must be set up for each individual region.
- For abandonment journeys (browse, cart, session), you can only send one text message per abandonment event in the US. This limit doesn't apply to other regions.
For more information about journeys, see What are journeys?
View regional dashboards and reports
As with accounts that include only a single region, the Dashboard provides a comprehensive suite of metrics to help you understand your messaging program’s performance. If you manage multiple regions from the same Attentive account, you can filter your dashboards to view region-specific performance.
To filter by region, click the Region dropdown and select a region.
The Region dropdown also appears for select reports.
View revenue in foreign currencies
In both campaigns and journeys, revenue amounts are displayed in all currencies represented by the regions in your account. Keep in mind that Attentive doesn't perform currency conversions, and separate calculations and totals are used for each currency.
